Statistics 2022-23

In 2022—23, we received and handled the highest number of crisis grant and community care grant reviews since the service was launched in 2016. Community care grant reviews increased by 32.9% and crisis grants by 8.1%. It is likely that these increases are linked to cost of living pressures. Self-isolation support grant reviews decreased by 59.2% compared with the previous year, with the scheme closing in January 2023.

In 2022-23 we received:

  • 1,304* review applications 
    • 283 community care grants
    • 800 crisis grants 
    • 220 self-isolation support grants

We handled:

  • 1,409* review applications
    • 290 community care grants
    • 805 crisis grants
    • 313 self-isolation support grant 

Other key figures

  • 1,546 enquiries handled - over 75% were people contacting us in error when trying to contact their local council 
  • 1,142 review requests progressed to a decision being made
    • 47.7% of community care grants upheld
    • 21% of crisis grants upheld 
    • 42.3% of self isolation support grants upheld
