Resident within the local authority area

Example

C applied for assistance with living costs after running out of money.

The council declined the application on the basis that C was not currently resident within the local authority area, having moved into a friend's caravan to escape harassment from neighbours.

We reviewed the council's file and spoke with C. We learned that C had been living away from their tenancy for approximately two months and intended to return only if alternative accommodation was secured through the council. On balance, we concluded that C was not currently resident in the local authority area and therefore did not meet the residency requirements for a Crisis Grant. We did not uphold the review request.
